Recent Changes...

Lots. There have been lots of changes. I don’t think that the word “lots” describes what we’ve been working on / completing. This will be a combined issue that includes August, September and October (as it’s almost the end of the month).

What happened in August?

To give you an accurate description, I had to look over the notes that I made in August to review all the goodies that we were working on. Here are some of them:

A) We were working on the final plans of our datacenter migration We planned to expand our capacity about four times, to accommodate future growth. So we had lots of fun tracking down and working with the datacenter to ensure we met the power, and space requirements that they had set.

B) We bought a new routing / switching network that would allow us to expand our network with ease.

What happened in September?

In September, our crew was busy preparing for the move to the new datacenter, finding the correct cabling and network pieces to ensure that the migration towards the end of September would smooth and seamless.

A) We started a new forum, for the HostICan community at http://forum.hostican.com, which allows you and even folks from outside to view and learn more about our services. Even though the forum is young, we are already building a tight-knit community and having a great time. So come join us, and share your questions and your knowledge with us.

B) You probably have dealt with hosts who migrate to a new datacenter, and claim they’ll be down a certain period of time, and then it takes two or three times as long, plus another couple of weeks to repair the damage. Well, we completed our move overnight beginning the last Friday of September, and lasting just about about 12 hours, which included four hours of preparation and eight hours of actual physical labor of moving from DC3 to DC2 (as they’re called). We survived the ordeal, and once we got the network back up, everything worked almost perfectly! Our weeks of intense preparation paid off, because we kept your downtime to the minimum. On the following day, we simply stayed in bed, or tried to!

What happened in October?

Well, we had a great month. We’ve almost hit $1 Million dollars payout in the affiliate program. You can see the current status on http://www.hosticanaffiliate.com. If you haven’t signed up yet, you’ll want to check it out. You can use HostICan’s Affiliate program to earn some extra cash to pay your hosting bill, or, if you devote enough time to the task, pay a few other bills too, such as that new car you’ve been lusting after!

Here are some other great developments for you:

A) We again expanded a few more cabinets for more dedicated servers, and what-not so we went through another system upgrade (more minor then the one in September). Once again, most of you didn’t notice much of a change, except that our service just continues to get better and better every single day.

B) We’re using TONS of power, so we’re working on introducing low-power servers that will not only reduce power consumption, but run a lot faster, which means your sites will work even better than they do now. You should see a press release about it real soon.

C) We upgraded and added more ISPs with our new Fiber panels, so now we’re running all Fiber GigE ports instead of a mix of Fiber and Copper (CAT-5).

Lots more things are in the pipeline. Next month, we should begin deploying our new servers, and we’ll continue to work to optimize all of our servers — and that means shared, VPS and dedicated — so we can continue to give you the best service in the industry.

Until next month’s newsletter, keep it real, and we look forward to seeing you on the HostICan community forum at http://forum.hostican.com.

Best Regards,
